Feeling Better
After emergency surgery on her knee, Madison has made a massive recovery. Here we are, less than a month later, already enjoying our time at Utah Lake with Grandpa pulling us on a tube.
Madison was back to walking very quickly, but now is almost back to 100%, with the only complication coming from kneeling on things. The doctor says that’s going to be an ongoing issue with her injury, but will likely be a mental blocker as the nerves were severed in a way that’s going to feel unnatural until her mind adjusts to it.
As her parent, I’m just happy she’s feeling better. While she’ll still have a little struggle with it, we were so worried at the time that it would limit her in some way and prevent her from running or playing or performing, but so far so good.
I still don’t like to remember the sinking feeling you experience as a parent when you see your kid get hurt. Your knees are somewhat important just while you’re alive. To badly injure your knee as such a young kid is truly gut-wrenching, especially when your parents both have a history of bad knees.
In that moment as I was scooping Madison up off the floor Tiffany was just in shock, and I knew I had to be calm so that Madison wouldn’t be scared. Madison was trying to be so tough and brave. She started chanting “I’m ok, I’m ok, I’m ok” at a crazy person’s pace. I had her hold a cloth on her knee with pressure so it wouldn’t leak out on the drive to the hospital. That day was so long waiting to hear what would happen. Now that it’s behind us, I feel like it all worked out and Madison is feeling better.
